“Seduction,”
……just the word gives me chills. “Lead
us not into temptation” but we are so “feeling-based”
and “just do it-based” and “it costs
more, but I’m worth it-based” that we do
not even know we are being seduced until we are full-blown
sinning sometimes -after all everyone else is buying
into it. I am not talking about crimes or sexual sin;
no, just simple everyday behaviors, “off the straight
and narrow path behaviors”: R-rated movies, (which
would have been considered XXX when I was growing up,
we could not even say the word “fart” without
getting grounded), neighborhood poker games, wine tasting,
and credit card spending, all innocent fun, or is it?
I’m not talking about moving away from liberalism
to legalism. I just find myself more aware of my choices
these days. How am I exercising my free will? Is it
for my highest good and the good of others, as the Holy
Spirit inspires me to act, or as my ego leads me, which
is by the nose, until like my dog, I’m tipping
over the trash can again, rummaging through for rancid
scraps, when a bowl of the highest quality puppy chow
is about to be poured for me, but I just couldn’t
wait, and now my stomach hurts and I’m in trouble
again.
